OUR HISTORY:
Our founder, Randy Sims, had a hunger for technology from an early age. After reprogramming his 3rd grade teacher’s computer in 1994, his parents knew that they would have a future IT programmer on their hands. This sparked a deep interest in him that allowed him to pursue a degree in Business and IT.
After graduating from Ferris State, Randy worked as a business to business sales manager for Best Buy, a Fortune 500 tech company. Utilizing Best Buy’s vast resources, he was able to establish a multi-million dollar portfolio spanning the west coast of Michigan and Northern Indiana. His passion for people and technology resulted in him being highly sought after to create custom solutions for small businesses in the area.
After Best Buy, Randy moved to another Fortune 500 company in Kellogg’s helping in their consumer affairs department. This allowed Randy’s people skills to aide the company in avoiding some serious issues and track potentially more dangerous product defects. The five years spent at Kellogg’s allowed him to see the many moving pieces of large companies and sparked a new interest in the data that helps create change.
After Kellogg’s, Randy moved on to a management role at yet another Fortune 500 company in SpartanNash. This grocery retailer and distributor needed to rewrite what it meant to look at data in more efficient and organization-shifting ways. After switching loyalty vendors, creating new processes, and partnering with marketing, he was able to increase revenues while also bring daily savings to the shoppers at their stores.
In 2019, Randy stepped out in faith and moved into the non-profit sector by becoming the IT Director of the largest church in Kalamazoo County, MI - Radiant Church. His leadership and drive resulted in him also taking over the Facilities team in 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic. Through market research, viewer analytics, and an increased focus on safety and sanitation, Radiant was able to continue in-person services with minimal shut-down time. Over the next 4 years, Randy was able to help in launching a third location in downtown Kalamazoo, completely wiring and programming the building from the ground up. Additionally, Randy took on many projects that resulted in cost savings across the organization while also increasing the efficiency of employees and reach of our broadcasted messages.
Fast forward to 2024 when SimsTECH was founded. Randy felt that it was time to step out in faith and trust that the Lord was guiding him to start his own business. After spending nearly two decades in the corporate and non-profit worlds, the knowledge gained in technology, B2B sales, analytics, and infrastructure management, helped Randy create a business plan that can encompass nearly every facet of small businesses and their desire for growth. He’s confident that SimsTECH can meet your business needs and help your small business or home welcome the 21st century without fear.
